ALL-REGION ORCHESTRA

*Recommended for those in private lessons

What is All-Region?

All-Region Orchestra refers to our Region 24 that Frisco ISD music programs are a part of with McKinney and Prosper ISD. All-Region is an opportunity for students to audition, and if selected, perform in an elite ensemble with the top students from Frisco, McKinney, and Prosper. Making All-Region Orchestra is something that can be added to a resume as it shows diligence, perseverance, and talent.

  • Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, 9:00am-5:30pm

Concert: 4:00-5:30pm

Audition Recommendations:

-True beginner (zero years experience) - All-Region auditions are not for this level of experience.

-Non-beginner 6th grader and 7th graders - audition for Concert Orchestra.

-Advanced 6th grader and 7th graders - may audition for Chamber/ Sinfonia (hardest music and highest level)

-8th Graders audition for Chamber/Sinfonia (hardest music and highest level)

6th, 7th, and 8th graders may audition for the Chamber/Sinfonia group, but the majority of the ensemble consists of 8th graders because the auditions are very competitive. As a 6/7th grader, it is better to start on the concert orchestra music.

All students are encouraged to participate in the All-Region process. All students in Symphonic Orchestra are expected to participate in the All-Region process.

How can I participate?

Students should print All-Region music as soon as it comes out, practice daily, attend additional instruction opportunities such as tutorials, and receive private lesson instruction to prepare for this audition.

Disciplined practice sessions include:

  • Checking finger placement accuracy with a tuner

  • Technique work including scales

  • Practicing slowly and carefully

  • Working with a metronome

Things to remember:

Nothing should be planned on the day of auditions, except All-Region Auditions. Please do not schedule a private lesson, go to an athletic practice or do anything that might cause you to be late or absent. Showing up late to your audition time will mean you lose the opportunity to make the All-Region orchestra until the following year.

Auditions are "blind" meaning that the selected judges will not be able to see you. They are sitting behind a curtain, while the rest of the students wait for their turn to play the music.

Audition results will be given on the Monday following the audition. Please do not email or contact the director for the results, and please do not hang around the audition facility for results as nothing will be posted that day.

If you are selected to be a member of the All-Region Orchestra, you will be responsible for attending ALL rehearsals and the concert which is listed on the Contract Form. If you know that you will not be able to attend, please speak with an orchestra director.
